FPL Headquarters Campus

Palm Beach County, FL

Developed with Perkins & Will, Miami, FL. Christopher Counts Design Principal

FPL Headquarters creates a resilient native landscape for a major corporate campus in Palm Beach County designed to remain functional through Category 5 hurricane conditions. The landscape works with the buildings and parking structures, using sculpted landforms, water systems, and strategic planting to protect the campus while creating a distinctive identity. Planting draws from South Florida’s native pine flatwood ecology, using communities of live oaks, slash pines, sabal palms, understory species, and native groundcovers to create shade, habitat, and a landscape rooted in place. Water features and wetlands take inspiration from Everglades tree islands, transforming resilience infrastructure into defining elements of the arrival experience. At the heart of the campus, an open-air courtyard creates an immersive native garden with shaded spaces for gathering, collaboration, events, and year-round use. The result brings ecology, resilience, and human experience together to create an iconic landscape expressive of South Florida and the FPL campus.
